Revive Charm City · Documentary-style film

The strongest story emerged through selection.

With three days of footage and many useful clips, the challenge was not finding material — it was choosing what belonged in a film with a firm runtime limit. We developed three different drafts, reviewed them internally, and selected the version with the most focused and impactful story.

Brief

Shape three days of footage within a strict runtime.

Craft

Story selection, documentary editing, structure, and pacing.

Outcome

A concise film built from the strongest of three internal edits.

The challenge

Make every second earn its place.

When a production generates several days of strong material, the edit becomes a series of difficult decisions. Including more footage would not necessarily make the story stronger — especially with a client-defined limit on its duration.

We needed to identify the clearest narrative, preserve the human presence and sense of place, and remove moments that did not strengthen the finished film.

Project scopeStory-led post-production

Footage review, narrative selection, three internal edits, pacing, and finishing for a 30-second documentary-style film.

Our approach

Compare the story, not just the shots.

01

Build three distinct drafts

We explored three ways to structure the material, giving the team different narrative options rather than settling on the first usable assembly.

02

Review for narrative impact

Internal reviews focused on clarity, emotional progression, pacing, and how well each version used the limited runtime.

03

Commit to the strongest cut

We selected the most effective draft and carried it through finishing, preserving only the moments that served the central story.

The result

A short film shaped by deliberate choices.

The finished edit brings the presenter, locations, and surrounding details into one concise narrative. The three-draft process allowed us to test the story before committing, rather than simply trimming a single timeline until it fit.
